Research Interests

During my master's, I had the opportunity to explore several of my research interests, mainly biological anthropology and digital archaeology. In one project, I used 3D data, obtained through LiDAR, and visualisation techniques to analyse the landscape of Iron Age hillforts in Belgium. Another project focused on identifying kinship relations within the population of a post-medieval, Dutch cemetery. The kinship analysis was based on several foot anomalies and considered funerary context and spatial relations. As part of the GPR programme “Human Past”, I can combine these interests in the PhD project “Quantification of osseous alterations of the medial epicondyle of the humerus: methodological and bioarchaeological research”. The project aims to develop a quantitative method to study surface irregularities of the medial epicondyle of the humerus, in particular using imaging. This method can then be used to objectively examine activities performed during the life-course of individuals (e.g., overhead throwing, use of axe) and the sexual division of labour in past human groups (e.g., in Neanderthal populations).
