Research Interests
My research projects are driven by a deep interest in understanding the production, conservation, perception and digital restoration of color from artistic and archaeological items. The principal objective is to investigate the colour’s origin, composition and degradation processes in a wide range of polychromatic objects (e.g., ceramics, marbles, monumental sculptures, textiles, paintings, fans) using non-invasive and mainly contactless analytical techniques. Furthermore, exploratory phases of experimental archaeology will be carried out like the creation of a database of reference spectra obtained from mockups made according to ancient recipes. This database will facilitate the accurate identification of historical objects and enhance our understanding of degradation processes through artificial aging.
